Lammas falls in August and is the time of gathering and harvesting the crops, when the earth is warm and the summer's green has ripened to golden brown. The great sunflower with its magical pattern of seeds and radiant petals represents the sun. The crescent moon becomes a sickle for harvesting the fruits of the earth. Bees are busy everywhere collecting the abundant nectar and preparing for the season's change. The Corn Mother, beautiful spirit of the grain who holds within her the seed for next year's crop, rises from the harvest around the woven corn dolly. All the colours of the Stonewylde Wheel of the Year are represented in the circle, to reinforce the resonance of the seasons as they plait and weave their way through the corn.
