I am Claire Grundell and Helix Tree is my newly formed business. I live with my husband and three children in beautiful rural Dorset where I have lived all my life. I love the beauty that accompanies each season and the changing colours of nature that gradually mix and harmonize together. I like to think that my work can be looked at on more than one level. The symbolism in the imagery I use can mean different things to different people. I love painting natural harmonies and cycles. All things have a beginning and an end. Day and night, light and dark, death and re-birth. These themes can be found in much of my art.
I trained in illustration at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, although I didn't discover painting in watercolours until after I left college. After a break when I was busy having my children, I began to illustrate and paint again. I have exhibited my paintings with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours for the past three years and with the Royal Marine Society's anniversary exhibition, both of which were at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.
The Stonewylde Collection is my first foray into the world of greetings cards. The paintings have been inspired by The Stonewylde Series of books by Kit Berry, who's my older sister. My art has changed direction in recent years and I've developed a style that reflects my growing interest in the themes of natural harmony and the rhythms of the earth. The beauty of creation is central to The Stonewylde Collection . It is a celebration of the magic we see all around us every day, a magic that can so easily go unnoticed in our busy daily lives.
I shall be adding further collections of cards around different themes and have a sketch book brimming with ideas. At some point I shall also be selling original paintings and limited edition prints too. I am looking for outlets for my work and welcome any enquiries from shops and galleries. I hope visitors to this site enjoy my work, and would appreciate any feedback.
